Dreams & Fantasies

"Those who work their land will have abundant food,
but those who chase fantasies have no sense." (Prov. 12.11)

In the scriptures there is a distinction between dreams and fantasies. God is the giver of dreams (witness Joseph and Nehemiah in the Old Testament) while fantasies are the product of our mind and have no basis in God. God puts dreams in the hearts of His people to do "immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us" (Ephesians 3.20). This verse reminds us to invest time and energy in using the resources God has given us. Our money, our time and our gifts all hold potential when used according to His will. I have a dream to write a book and I still fantasize about being in a rock 'n roll band. There is a clear line there!

God is able to take what He has given us and multiply it for His own glory. It is senseless for us to turn away from those things and chase the fantasies that never will come true and lead to nothing.
