Year in Preview
I know our tendency is to look back at the "Year in Review," and yet God is always more interested in our future. M'Cheyne's reading for January 1st reminds of this: The Creation (Genesis 1), the birth of salvation (Matthew 1), the restoration of the temple (Ezra 1) and the birth of the Church (Acts 1).
Of particular interest to me in this new year is how Romans 8.28 is prefigured in the creation of the world: "All things work together..." as God the Creator places random elements in their proper place, all for the benefit of his creatures who will inherit the earth. It's so much to take in and so wonderful on its face. God is always doing this for us who love Him. The "random" events of this day and every day this new year will find their places in the plan of God.
