Shadowland

The readings today in McCheyne describe the interplay of God's sovereign purpose and man's constant doubt; "How long, O LORD ? Will you be angry forever? How long will your jealousy burn like fire?" (Psalm 79.5) is answered by Isaiah's prophecy, " In days to come Jacob will take root, Israel will bud and blossom and fill all the world with fruit." We are living in what C.S. Lewis called the "Shadowlands," where we see darkly and the truth of God's purpose is withheld from us for a time. The real things belong to us but we must wait for them and live a life of trust in the goodness of God.
