The Essential Church

A recent Pew Research poll reveals that 57% of Evangelicals do not believe that there is only one way to salvation. This should concern all of us in the Church, especially parents whose children are awash in a culture where tolerance and diversity are the controlling values.

In our rush to be relevant, the Church has become too much like the culture around it. Like Icarus who, in his joy of flying, soared too close to the sun and fell into the sea, so believers are in danger of becoming powerless witnesses. (Check out Charles Colson's The Faith).

The time has come to recommit to the essentials of the Faith - the authority of the Bible, the divine person of Jesus Christ, salvation only through Him - these will help keep us grounded and provide the spiritual energy necessary for us to transform the culture around us.
